Website ideas

Homepage Ideas From my analysis, I will probably stick to a more dull colour scheme that a lot of magazines use on their website, this draws more attention to the story photos. I can have my masthead at the top, maybe next to social media links, with a small selection of categories underneath. It can go straight into the main ‘new’ stories, with one bigger one and smaller ones on the side, then it can split into different categories underneath with stories and product advertisements. There will probably also be a subscribe popup or a thing to sign up to a newsletter. Linked page ideas I will probably choose to make some kind of ‘about us’ page as my linked page, with a few paragraphs about what my magazine does and its inspiration and so on. Then have things to subscribe, sign up to a newsletter, 'contact us' or get involved etc. This probably won't require many photos, maybe a layout with text over images in the background or around the side.  Depending on the amount...

Contents page ideas

Image
Ideas for Contents Page 1: One page with a main image that is surrounded by the contents list, can be split into sections probably based around beauty, fashion, culture/arts, seasonal, celebrities, news and products so it's neat and organised. I would probably need less photos for a page like this, more 3-5 depending on where smaller images will fit Ideas for Contents Page 2: Over a two page spread with more photos, ones that go with stories and products/advertising, possibly one main image in the center that the contents lift flows around, this would require a lot more images, between 5-8 maybe, so I'd need to gather more, I'd also have to fill the page with more stories which will take much longer, especially if I want to organise them into sections too.

Front cover ideas

Ideas for Front Cover: My cover will depend on the photos but I want the story lines to be able to flow around the main model with a main cover line that complements it, possibly some small advert as well but that might work better on the contents page. I will try and stick too a reasonable amount of colour in my photos so it doesn't cause clutter with my text. I might also try make the masthead covered by the model in one but it depends on the photo. I also think my cover photos will mostly include women as that’s more my target audience.

Magazine website analysis 3- GQ

This website has a very similar layout to vogue, a simple black and white colour scheme to bring attention to story photos, and the brand just above some content sections, the main thing sticking out being an advertisement and an immediate popup to sign up to their newsletters. There are some familiar sections like fashion and culture, but also things that are considered more 'masculine' like grooming, fitness and even a whole section on watches, showing this is clearly designed for a middle/upper class audience that can afford things like watches for each season. A lot of stories have images that are appealing to a male audience with images including sexualised woman, the first story in particular with the largest image is of a woman in revealing clothing on a bed, despite the story actually being her talking about movies. There are similar stories below before the actual men’s fashion section clearly to attract an audience before their other stories, though this might change...

Magazine website analysis 2- ELLE

This websites brand title is much smaller and goes next to all the content sections, this brings attention straight to their large ‘must read’ section with large, bright images that stand out from the rest of the black and white website, it also makes the popups to subscribe, which gives you a digital issue for a monthly subscription, and order now much clearer. This website has fewer sections at the top which might suggest they have a more concentrated focus on what their specific audience wants instead of advertising a range of things, you also have to open the dashboard to find the shopping section at the bottom instead of it being clear, there is clear focus on a female audience with all their stories being focused on women and them in inspirational positions of power. On this website there is a lot more advertising of products under their stories and some other brands between stories, showing this must be how they get extra revenue as stories are free to read, but it does en...

Magazine website analysis 1- VOGUE

You are immediately greeted with the brand name being the biggest piece of text, and the next things that draw your eye straight away are the two bold ‘subscribe’ buttons to quickly try to convince anyone that clicks on the website, all the text is black which helps bring attention to the photos/stories just under the content section for their audience to quickly navigate to any section in particular they want, including things like ‘beauty, fashion, culture, arts’ etc. things a creative, middle class audience will take interest in. There is also a large shopping session with a large dashboard of particular products, reinforcing the power and media theory with a capitalist approach, especially as some of the stories advertise things to buy or places to visit and how to book them, appealing to their middle class audience will be able to afford these things. It is notable that all their stories on the website seem to be free but to view an actual digital issue you have to subscribe...
