Statement of Intent

To create a brand identity that relates to 16-25 year olds and follows traditional magazine conventions, I will construct a magazine based off research into designer brands in the real world, with photos also focused on models within that age range. My magazine branding will likely naturally lean more toward a female audience as they are stereotypically more into style then men and most of my models will be women, I plan to use a simple house style with light colours matching the bright  summer season with just a few consistent fonts that creates a sense of calm along with looking modern and minimalistic. I plan on taking photos with other people our age in more professional looking clothes like dresses, connecting to other people in this target age and letting them aspire that they can be seen as someone smart and well-dressed to be respected as well as following some relatable trends to connect to and using direct address to engage the audience with the photo, I will also try to include a range of people to connect to as many people as possible.

I’m going to look into multiple real magazine websites to draw inspiration from for my own product, following these conventions I want to stick to a very minimalistic colours scheme, having all my text in one colour will draw as much attention to my photos/articles as possible. I plan to have a menu bar at the top showing the multiple sections you can go to for specific articles like beauty, culture or shop etc. with my masthead on one end in a larger font to draw more attention, along with social media links somewhere, connecting to a young active online audience and allowing them to advertise the magazine more online. Underneath I want there to be the largest section of the “top” articles followed by a more specific one underneath or maybe a link to the shop. At the very bottom of the page, I could add a contact or subscribe section, maybe multiple across the page as I noticed on real websites there’s popups encouraging you to engage and subscribe at every point. For my linked page I could either do a shop, linking to my home page and that people like to shop online now for convenience, though I would need a lot of photos for this, alternatively I could do some kind of contact page for people to get in touch and express how they feel about the magazine, creating a relationship between audience and producers.

I plan on linking my products to keep a consistent brand by using similar minimal fonts and colours across both, with stories that link across both to represent the same target audience, however, the website colour scheme will probably be more simple to reflect real brands. I want them to both share some stories and then have exclusive ones to encourage people to subscribe/buy the actual magazine, I will also feature a link to the website on my covers to encourage audiences to visit it if they enjoy the articles.
